How Our British Shorthair Kittens Learn to Use the Litter Box

At Royal Markys, litter training begins naturally and very early.

From our own experience, the right time to introduce the litter box is when kittens begin transitioning from their mother’s milk to regular kitten food. As soon as we started offering our kittens their first solid food alongside milk, we placed a clean, easy-to-access litter tray in their area.

The result surprised even us.

By the very next day, all five kittens had already used the litter box successfully.

As the kittens grew and the second litter joined them, the same good habit continued. Today, all nine of our Royal Markys British Shorthair kittens know exactly where to go. They use their litter boxes confidently and consistently and do not have accidents outside the tray.

We believe that introducing good habits early is an important part of raising kittens in a home environment. They learn where to eat, where to sleep, where to play and, just as importantly, where to use the bathroom.

For future families, this means our kittens are already familiar with normal household routines long before they leave for their new homes.

Watching such tiny kittens learn so quickly is another reminder of just how intelligent and adaptable British Shorthairs can be.
